Once more the Israelis say a coming war with Lebanon is inevitable. And once more the general secretary of Hezbollah would appear on a big screen pointing his finger in gestures of warnings and threats, talking about the readiness of his men to face any possible Israeli attack. I do not doubt Hezbollah is ready, but not the Lebanese state.

The surprising visit of March 14 members of parliament to Gaza this Tuesday seemed more shocking than any other event. It raised many a question about the changes taking place in the policies of this coalition, with the main question being: what is still left of March 14 with such duality of standards and loss of clear vision?

You cannot pass by the title “Joseph Anton”  between regular newly issued books in a Beirut bookstore without noticing it. Joseph – from Conrad, Anton – from Chekhov, is the name the British novelist Salman Rushdie used for himself during his years of hiding and has chosen as a title of his recently published memoir. While the book is now available in Beirut, its author is still banned in relation to his highly controversial novel The Satanic Verses.

Nasrallah acknowledges responsibility for launching the drone and justified the presences of Hezbollah members fighting in Syria.

After acknowledging responsibility of the drone downed over al-Naqab last week and claiming its members fighting for “self-defense” in Syria, Hezbollah (and consequently the whole country) is put in the face of two looming wars and an increasing gap between Lebanese religio-political groups. In his speech last Thursday, Secretary General of Hezbollah Sayyid Nasrallah claimed he has the right to launch aerial reconnaissance drones over Israel and promised to send more in the future. He also justified the presence of Hezbollah members fighting against rebels in Syria, saying they are protecting their homes. Nasrallah kept for Hezbollah the right of military supporting president Assad whenever suitable.
